Our 14th Annual Art Exhibition at Filoli was held March 27 through June 24, 2012, in the Visitor and Education Center. Lee McCaffree and Catherine Watters were the exhibit co-chairs. There were 57 paintings accepted by 37 international artists. The jurors were ASBA member Jean Emmons and UC Berkeley botanist Dr. Peggy Fiedler. The paintings and drawings included works created in watercolor, colored pencil, pen & ink, graphite, gouache, and oil.

Three awards were presented at the opening reception for artists and the community held on March 29th. The Bourn Award for Distinction with an Emphasis on Horticulture Presentation, chosen by Lucy Tolmach, Director of Horticulture at Filoli, was awarded to Pria Graves for her watercolor on paper of Heritage Pole beans, Phaseolus vulgaris ‘Kew Blue’ and “Kentucky Wonder’. The Roth Award for Distinction with an Emphasis on Traditional Botanical Art Presentation, chosen by Lynn Norris, Director of Educational Programming and Interpretation at Filoli, was awarded to Regina Gardner Milan for her watercolor on paper of Amaryllis, Hyppeastrum. The Jurors’ Award for Distinction of Botanical Art Presentation, chosen by jurors Jean Emmons and Dr. Peggy Fiedler, was awarded to Catherine Watters for her watercolor on paper of Magnolia wilsonii.

The annual exhibition at Filoli continues to be a big success, with record attendance this year, generating a large number of sales of originals, giclée prints and cards.
