Artists' Talk 2-3 PM

Philadelphia area artists Linda Gist, John Gist and Carol Ashton-Hergenhan, all graduates of the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) and members of both the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators, are jointly exhibiting their botanical works at Pennswood Art Gallery, located in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Although their work is not limited to botanical art, each of them find it holds a special place in their ouevre. To quote Linda, "Botanical work continues to engage and challenge me because of its endless complexity, "  a sentiment echoed by Carol who says "My work on paper is about how plants work and the incredible intricacies which are rarely observed but give even the most common "weed" a beauty of its own."  John's approach is to "...find the the structure and graphic qualities as opposed to the "pretty" image that is unfortunately the sterotype of what is thought, by some, to be a botanical drawing." Together, these artists' unique views combine to give an in-depth view of the plants around us and the art they inspire.

Pennswood Gallery is open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM and is located at 1382 Newtown Langhorne Rd, Newtown PA 18940, adjacent to George School. Call 215-968 9110 for directions and information.
