Marianne is a recent graduate (2017) of the Diploma in Botanical Illustration from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. She was awarded a distinction and received the Eve Bennet award for Botanical Illustration. Her work is a meld of the fascination that she feels for her plants, their structure and life cycle, combined with her approach to composition.

When she was 15, her mother took her to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s festival exhibition of “The Botanical Paintings of Rory McEwan”, she was smitten, she immediately went home and tried to reproduce watercolours of leaves and sweet peas. She wasn’t able to accomplish her vision and match her inspiration at that time, but a seed was sown…

Finally Marianne has begun to capture detail.

Marianne sources and usually grows her plants and learns their nature before she works with them. The time spent nurturing leads to a deep connection and insight into their growing cycle that lends life and realism to her paintings and art work.

She is interested in connecting and working with botanists, horticulturalists, environmental scientists and other artists, and in taking on commission work. She is also looking forward to the new projects on her ever growing to do list; some more ink work, watercolour and some printmaking.
