Monica Ray is an avid gardener and artist who focusses on botanicals and natural science subjects. She was born and educated in The Netherlands, and in 1987 moved to the United States of America. She became a US citizen in 2002.
She has a varied background in business and the volunteer sector, and has taken on many leadership roles. Currently she is Co-chairing her Garden Club’s Horticulture Study Group; organizing trips, tours, lectures and workshops.
Her lifelong love of the natural world continues to inspire her and so does her garden, as well as her travels around the world.
She earned and holds a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden, and has participated in various Art Shows, nationally and locally. She had her first solo show at Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Long Island in the summer of 2015.
An interview with Monica Ray about her art and what brought her to Botanicals was published in “The Botanical Artist”, the Journal of the American Society of Botanical Artists (March 2015 issue).
Her art is executed in silverpoint, colored pencil, graphite, pen & ink, watercolor and mixed media.
