Working mainly in watercolour, I have focused for the last few years almost exclusively on botanical subjects. Having drawn and painted for most of my adult life, I completed numerous courses covering various disciplines including horticulture, garden design, and pottery.
I have always enjoyed flowers and plants as subject and inspiration. Whilst living and working in Paris, I attended classes in traditional drawing and painting techniques for two years, but fell in love with botanical painting while attending a short course run by Fiona Strickland, and subsequently joined her regular class.
Generally working on a large scale, I love finding the drama in light and composition, and looking for more unusual subjects. Recently, I have been concentrating on private commissions, but am producing work for exhibition in between.
I have original work in the Southside Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland, and have work held by the Shirley Sherwood collection. I was honoured to be the recipient of the St. Cuthbert’s Mill award at the 2014 SBA exhibition and and the two-time recipient of the ‘People’s Choice’ award at the first exhibitions of the new Scottish Society of Botanical Artists (2015). I have had a painting shortlisted this year for the Artist of the Year 2017 prize, run by Artists and Illustrators magazine, showing at the Mall Gallery in London from the 23rd to 28th January.
