ASBA wrap-up, Tanzania, and Music. What a combo!
Join us for this free program during which you will meet our new president Myra Sourkes, hear a short summary of ASBA's finances by Treasurer Deb Dion and a brief wrap-up of the past year's events by Executive Director Jody Williams. The main event will be presentations by two ASBA artist grant recipients whose projects, are making a difference through botanical art.
In collaboration with botanists from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania,
Mariko Ikeda launched a project focused on plant conservation education through botanical illustration. During this presentation, Mariko will share how she worked with faculty members and students of botany as well as primary schools to introduce the practice of botanical art, bridging science and art while fostering emotional connections to nature and aesthetic appreciation of plants.
Also "hear" how
Sara Anne Hook brought music and botanical art together working with the director of the Friesner Herbarium and others to create an exhibition of artwork by students staff and alumni of Butler University and Studio 3 (an art ministry) illustrating flowers named in the flute and cello duets titled Airs for the Four Seasons. Sara recorded a video to accompany the exhibition featuring a duet of music with herself on flute and Marjorie Lange Hanna on cello.
