Julia has been a botanical artist for nearly 25 years and a tutor for almost as long. She has received four RHS Gold Medals. She is particularly interested in celebrating less-than-perfect specimens in watercolor, starting with wet-in-wet watercolor techniques then moving on to drier painting methods. Over the years Julia has experimented with different backgrounds including mottled and black backgrounds, and to challenge herself, she has recently been working on natural vellum.
During the Pandemic she developed and hosted a program of regular online talks by fellow botanical artists, which continue to be popular.
