ASBA LIVE in the Studio with M. Joy Lemon
As part of ASBA's 28th Annual International, we'll visit with M. Joy Lemon in her studio. The one-hour session will allow 45 minutes of tour and presentation, and 15 minutes for a Q & A. Sessions can be viewed live or on demand for two weeks following live airing. Join Joy for a studio tour where she will showcase her collection of still life objects and everyday studio materials, demonstrating how she arranges a still life setup for her oil or charcoal and chalk compositions. She will then guide you through a presentation on the principles of light and form, drawing from her classical training, and explain how these concepts shape her artwork. Expect hands-on demonstrations, including her material preparation, small studies to explore and resolve value issues, and her process for rendering form.

About Joy
A professional artist and instructor, M. Joy Lemon works in the classical realist style with an emphasis on luminosity and depth. Her approach melds extensive atelier training with the delicate art of botanical illustration, in graphite, charcoal and chalk, and oil. Through this practice, Joy has cultivated a profound understanding of how light and shadow interact with form. Each turn, twist, and curl of a petal demands meticulous observation and a soft, nuanced application of values. As she articulately puts it, "Everything is in three dimensions; I just have to find and form it into two”.
