An introduction to the traditional techniques of metal point for the

botanical artist.


Silverpoint is a traditional medium that has been used for centuries. Join contemporary 
botanical artist, Donnett Vanek, as she demonstrates techniques in silverpoint for botanical artists. Silverpoint is not about the shiny silver. Silverpoint will patina overtime giving the rendering subtle gradations. That is the beauty of the silverpoint medium. Join Donnett in this

workshop to broaden your understanding of how to use the subtle gradations of the silverpoint medium for a successful rendering. Donnett will discuss the di?erences of working in graphite and silverpoint. Silverpoint techniques of hatching, cross hatching and linear layering of marks to achieve darks, will be explored in this zoom presentation.


Bio

Donnett Vanek is a contemporary botanical artist working in the traditional botanical art techniques of drybrush watercolor, graphite, and silverpoint.

The artist’s studio is in Los Padres 
National Forest, near Los Angeles, California. Donnett is an exhibiting artist. She is honored to

have work included in the American society of Botanical Artists 28th Annual International Exhibition, American Society of Botanical Artists/Society of Illustrators 27th Annual International Exhibition, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation’s 17 International Exhibition of Botanical Art & Illustration, The New York Botanical Garden’s Fifth Triennial;Curious Allies: Mutualism in Fungi, Parasites, and Carnivores, the American Society of Botanical Artists 26th Annual International Exhibition, and a solo show; Wild Flowers and Pollinators, at Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants. Donnett is honored to have her graphite drawing, Elegant Clarkia; Clarkia unguiculata, in the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation.
