Janene seeks to heighten awareness of the fragility and beauty of the natural world through her paintings, particularly plants native to the Pacific Northwest where she lives. She uses watercolor to achieve the clear, bright tones of nature. One of her favorite surfaces to paint on is calfskin vellum, which has been used by artists since before the Renaissance, and results in glowing, organic looking paintings.
She graduated from Great Britain’s Society of Botanical Art diploma program with distinction in 2013. Since then, her work has been in regional, national, and international shows. She was a founding member and past president of Oregon Botanical Artists, an Artists' Circle in the ASBA.
