I graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil), in 1997; attended Art and Drawing Classes at Escola Clássica de Arte (Classical School of Art), with Professor Ángel Martínez in São Paulo, from 1993 to 1998. I work with biological illustrations mostly for academic research, aiming for excellence in a variety of media like graphite, pen nib and ink, watercolors, acrylics, colored pencils, pastel, and scratchboard.
Ever since I began my career back in 1998, I have been giving lectures, teaching intensive workshops, and extensive courses throughout my country, Brazil. I teach at universities, educational institutions, artists’ associations, private studios, and online courses.
In 2019, I traveled across several states and cities in the USA, teaching a series of lectures and workshops on graphite and pen nib and ink applied to biological illustrations.
I am the author of many didactic guidebooks that support my classroom courses, some of which are translated into English and all are distributed for free to the general public, just like several of my video lessons which are available on YouTube. I am a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and a founding member of the União Nacional dos Ilustradores Científicos (UNIC – from Brazil, which translates as “National Union of Scientific Illustrators”).
Among my awards, I won twice the first prize in the Margaret Mee National Contest of Botanical Illustrations (Brazil), in 2002 and 2003 (black and white category). I also won twice the first prize in the Margaret Flockton Award for Excellence in Botanical Illustration (Australia), in 2010 and 2013. In this same contest, I won second prize in 2021, and the "highly commended" prize in 2006, 2010 and 2017.
In 2016 I took part in one of the most prestigious international events related to my profession, the Hunt Institute Exhibition of Botanical Art and Illustration (Pittsburgh, EUA), having my artwork acquired for the Institute's collection.
