Helen Lewis in her younger years was a plant scientist who worked on potato research. She earned a PhD in Agriculture from the University of Reading (England) and a MS in Horticulture from the University of the Philippines as a scholar of the International Potato Center. To fast-forward the events in her life, in 2018, then as an older person, she followed a new direction. She enrolled in the Botanical Art Certificate Program at Filoli in Woodside California and completed it in early 2021. Plant scrutiny as a means of understanding nature is an ever-burning passion for her. Where once she needed statistics to show her findings, now she uses a paint brush or pencil to present her observations to the world.
