Flowering Garlic
Allium sativa
I chose a garlic which was growing in my garden and had just been harvested. I depicted it all, the whole garlic plant with seeds, stem, leaves and garlic bulb and roots. It was an interesting composition because of the way the garlic had grown into a very pleasing presentation. It was tricky to show the dirt around the bulb, but I wanted to give a sense that the bulb is underground. I hope that people will look at the piece and say “Wow, that's how garlic looks when it’s growing? Who knew?!”
I portray a lot of edible plants in my art work and I love to do things like this from my own garden.
