Dried Hosta Leaf
Hosta cv.
This dried Hosta leaf was painted from some dead leaves in my garden. I just thought the way the leaf started to decay was really lovely. It started soft and wet and gradually stiffened as it dried out, but the colours remained the same. It seems both fragile and robust at the same time and the imperfections make it unique.
I never really know what makes me select a particular plant - just whim mostly. I am also always looking for a way of presenting a botanical piece in a truly contemporary way, so here I was experimenting with the idea of not including the whole leaf, allowing it to go off the page. This is an area I am working with at the moment - how much needs to be included, how much can be left out.
