STORY BEHIND THE ART OF CATHERINE WATTERS

16th Annual International

American Society of Botanical Artists and the Horticultural Society of New York

Soapwort Gentian

Gentiana saponaria

I first saw gentians growing in central France many years ago and was fascinated by their amazing color. Wanting to paint them ever since, I had the opportunity to do so last year. I chose to paint the delicate Gentiana saponaria, commonly known as Harvest bells, on calfskin vellum. I wanted to capture their simple beauty by showing the various stages of growth. I hope the viewers will be attracted to the rich Cobalt blue color of this lovely wildflower. I am thrilled and honored to be in this exhibit!
