STORY BEHIND THE ART OF JANE FISHER

Bur Oak Leaf
Quercus macrocarpa
I found this leaf on a walk in my old neighborhood where I had lived for many years. As soon as I saw it, I knew that nature had already done much of the hard work of composition. The stem and mid vein had such a beautiful S curve that all I needed to do was place it on the paper at a good angle and I was ready to draw! Although I enjoy working out compositions, I find it to be the most challenging part of drawing. This year my time and attention were so divided – I was absorbed in the process of moving from our home of 27 years to our new condominium - that when I did get a bit of free time it was nice to just sit down and draw. This drawing will always be a fond reminder of walks in my leafy neighborhood and the time I spent drawing it in my much loved studio
