Hosted by New York Design Center, and installed in 1st Dibs’ bright and contemporary gallery space, this exhibition promises an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the best contemporary botanical art has to offer. The Horticultural Society of New York, NYDC, and ASBA are reaching out to a new and broadened audience with a series of targeted events and programs, to be announced in September.

Out of 260 submissions, jurors selected 48 artworks by artists from the US, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The exhibition will open on the evening of November 3, at which time artwork images will be included on this website. A full-color catalog will be published and available here, as well as at the venue and at The Hort. For further information please contact: exhibitions@asba-art.org.

Meet curators and artists and enjoy refreshments during this reception and walkthrough in 1st Dibs' 10th floor gallery at New York Design Center. The premier annual showcase of contemporary botanical art, ASBA's Annual International presents the genre's most established artists alongside emerging talents from around the world.
 
Artists Carrie Di Costanzo, Ingrid Finnan, Rose James, and Tammy McEntee will share their personal stories behind their work and offer a unique perspective on the work of their peers. They will be joined by Exhibitions Chair Patricia Jonas and curator Carol Woodin who will provide insight into the artwork selection process.

Autumn Finds, Watercolor on Vellum

One day workshop

Location: New York Botanical Garden Mid-town Center, 20 W. 44th St., New York, NY
 
Description: Learn to paint autumnal botanical subjects on vellum in this day-long workshop. The workshop will explore vellum preparation and the various wash and dry brush techniques that makes work on vellum beautifully translucent. By the end of the day you should have achieved a couple of small studies from a selection of material. Feel free to bring your own small subjects, such as fruits, seed pods and small autumn leaves, a selection to choose from will also be provided. A materials list will be emailed to class registrants.
 
Instructor bio: A British artist who originally trained with the Royal Doulton design studio, Staffordshire, Dianne Sutherland works in watercolour and graphite on vellum. Her preferred subject material includes European flora, leaves, and deconstructed plant studies. Currently serving on the UK’s Society of Botanical Artists Council, she has been an elected member of the Society since 2012. Dianne holds a Diploma in Botanical Art and a BS in Biology. She teaches botanical art and writes a popular botanical art blog. A regular RHS exhibitor, Dianne’s work held in the collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation and the Royal Botanical Garden, Sydney, Florilegium Society.
