GROWING NATIVES: BOTANICAL ART AND ILLUSTRATION FROM THE BACKYARD
From September 1-30, 2018, the Leland Cultural Arts Center gallery in Leland, North Carolina, will display botanical art and illustrations by Mari Yamashita de Moya.
The 26 works on paper are primarily watercolor paintings of native North Carolina plants or their cultivars.
Although Mari expected to live in New England after retirement, she woke up in Chapel Hill, NC on a fall morning in October 2014 and headed to the North Carolina Botanical Garden to soothe her soul. The traveling exhibition in the gallery of "Following the Bartram's Footsteps" launched her in a happy trajectory to pursue a new skill set. In the summer of 2017, she completed a certification in Botanical Illustration at the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, and also joined the ranks of ASBA.
