Over the years I have loved using my art for conservation and this exhibition is a chance to get a glimpse of an endangered plant that may only be seen by hiking into their habitats at just the right time, or by clinging perilously onto ledges over a river or being escorted by the people protecting them. In this new series of endangered plant paintings featuring the initial dozen of the twenty-five federally listed endangered plants of Texas, I give you the “behind the scene” studies (botany, flower geometry, habit, color matching) which is on the left hand side and then on the right hand side is the portrait - all in one painting. Texas has approximately 450 flora deemed of greatest conservation concern with only 41 listed as threatened or endangered leaving 400 species with little or no protection. This exhibition also showcases Texas native wildflowers and trees to show the magic of their existence. Some rare and some “not so much”.
This is actually a “duo show” in collaboration with my husband Victor Summers. His wood sculptures are all made from salvaged Texas Natives. Over 15 different Texas tree species will be represented in his work and some of those natives have my botanical illustrations as well.
