Marianne Hazlewood is an award winning botanical artist, previously in Edinburgh Scotland, newly based in the Scottish Borders. She studied botanical illustration at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, graduating with a distinction in 2017.


She received the Visual Arts Scotland W Gordon Smith and Mrs Jay Gordon Smith Award for work of merit, for her watercolour painting of Ariseama griffithii in 2022, and the Open Eye Gallery Exhibition Award at Visual Arts Scotland Open Exhibition in 2019 for her illustrations in Japanese ink paste of Arisaema griffithii and Ariseama tortuosum. She also received an RHS Gold Award and a BISCOT Gold Award in 2019 for her watercolour series on Ariseama displaying the inflorescence and fruits within each painting.


Marianne illustrates in ink, watercolour and screen print, growing most of the plants that she works with and shows at the Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh.


Marianne displays annually at the Pittenweem Arts Festival, and creates work for exhibition and commission, you can usually see what she has been up to on instagram.
