My training in botanical art started as an undergraduate at Eastern Michigan University making detailed drawings of plant anatomy, plant morphology and trees & woody shrubs. At this time I took a course in botanical illustration at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens with Karin Douthit. I went on to earn a BS in Biology from Eastern Michigan University and a MS in Botany from Clemson University. My interest in nature led me to working as a horticulturist at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, designing and managing nature preserves for The Nature Conservancy and teaching at Washtenaw Community College, Clemson University, Midlands Technical College and Spring Valley High.

As a teacher I developed an arts-based curriculum for biology and environmental science classes that taught students to use drawing and watercolor painting as a way to carefully observe and record the natural world. The paintings and illustrations you will find here are inspired by my love of the natural world.

More of my work can be seen at my artist website "dalesoblo.com". Selected works are on exhibit and for sale at the Plateau Creative Arts Center in Crossville TN, USA. Cards and prints of my work are available, just ask for a quote by emailing me at dalesobloart@gmail.com. They are printed based on demand. I also do works on commission.

Thank you for visiting my gallery.
