Ellen Fishburne is originally from Statesville, North Carolina. Her first formal art studies were there, with Ms. Louise Gilbert. Fishburne earned her BFA in Communications Art and Illustration at East Carolina University. A lifelong student, she is currently pursuing a Certificate of Botanical Art and Illustration from the North Carolina Botanical Gardens in Chapel Hill. She is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Alice R. H. Smith, Beatrix Potter, and John Singer Sargent are some of the many artists whose work she admires. A South Carolina resident since 1980, Fishburne illustrates “Carolina Sketchbook” for South Carolina Wildlife magazine, and has produced illustrations for the SC State Museum, USC Press, and SCETV.
