About this event

Botanical Art Techniques in Action
ASBA introduces the third round of four episodes in a new series of live-action tutorials based on Botanical Art Techniques, A Comprehensive Guide. Tutors demonstrate their topics from the book with new subjects and expand on those lessons. The one-hour sessions allow 45 minutes of demonstration, and 15 minutes for a Q & A. Sessions can be viewed live or on demand for the week following live airing.

Painting in Egg Tempera with Carrie Di Costanzo
Egg tempera is a quick drying water soluble paint that is created by mixing egg yolk with dried pigment. It can be used semi opaquely and transparently. Carrie Di Costanzo will show how she applies semi opaque paint quickly and then moves on to glazing and scumbling to build up thin layers of colors. The translucency of the thin layers of color help to create a radiance in the painting. The initial semi opaque layers also create body. A short slideshow will illustrate this technique and the live demonstration will focus on glazing thin layers of paint.
