ASBA introduces the third round of four episodes in a new series of live-action tutorials based on Botanical Art Techniques, A Comprehensive Guide. Tutors demonstrate their topics from the book with new subjects and expand on those lessons. The one-hour sessions allow 45 minutes of demonstration, and 15 minutes for a Q & A. Sessions can be viewed live or on demand for the week following live airing.
Combining Graphite and Colored Pencil with Ann Swan
Combining graphite alongside colored pencil or over a colored pencil underpainting can add pictorial depth to our plant portraits. Join Ann Swan as she shares how she approaches her plant material, decides on the appropriate techniques, and plans her compositions. Ann will demonstrate how to prepare a colored, underpainted surface that is suitable for graphite drawing. She will explain how much color needs to be applied and in what order, and the importance of testing before melting and blending the color smoothly into the paper's surface using an alcohol-based solvent. She will also share with you some of her tips and tricks to create fine veins and textural details.
