Botanical Art Techniques in Action
ASBA introduces the third round of four episodes in a new series of live-action tutorials based on Botanical Art Techniques, A Comprehensive Guide. Tutors demonstrate their topics from the book with new subjects and expand on those lessons. The one-hour sessions allow 45 minutes of demonstration, and 15 minutes for a Q & A. Sessions can be viewed live or on demand for the week following live airing.

Atmospheric Perspective and Complex Composition with Elaine Searle
Join Elaine Searle as she shares her technique for plant portraits with complex layered and cropped compositions. Botanical components are drawn first on tracing paper and then ‘built’ in layers to form a master drawing. The composition is tested with a graphite tonal and adjusted. Elaine will demonstrate how to guide the viewers gaze to chosen focal points and manipulate light on form, contrast, color and detail to create a heightened illusion of depth.
