Botanical Art Techniques in Action
ASBA introduces the second round of four episodes in a new series of live-action tutorials based on Botanical Art Techniques, A Comprehensive Guide. Tutors demonstrate their topics from the book with new subjects and expand on those lessons. The one-hour sessions allow 45 minutes of demonstration, and 15 minutes for a Q & A. Sessions can be viewed live or on demand for the week following live airing.

Botanical Painting in Gouache with Lucy Martin
Gouache is less often used in botanical art than is watercolor, and the techniques used are quite different. Lucy Martin will show how her use of the opaque qualities of gouache give it the potential for detailed and expressive rendering of lichens, fungi, mosses and other botanical subjects. Lucy will demonstrate laying down a first layer of color, using white with a very dry brush to create texture, placing thin washes over white to build up rich color and building up a structure from dark to light.
